| Abstract | This study on the Farming Systems Development Project of Eastern Visayas (FSDP-EV) was conducted to determine the potential of PTD in sustaining upland agricultural productivity through farmers' participation in research and development as well as extension. PTD is a new paradigm hoped to address the problems of CDR environment untouched by the conventional approach of rural and agricultural development. The study which aimed at exploring how the farmer- beneficiaries came to join the Project, the extent of their involvement in planning and implementation, and the factors affecting participation was conducted using structured interview technique, field observati~n and secondary data collection. Results of the study show that beneficiaries' participation in planning is indispensable to make a participatory project successf ul . This is because what determined their participation in implementation was the nature and degree of their involvement in identifying their needs/problems and in setting priorities which did not only make them physically, socially and intellectually involved but also psychologically . Opportunity for participation among farmer beneficiaries is the intervening factor for a wholesome participation in planning, and eventually in implementation. |
