Abstract | Today manufacturing technique is one of the competitive weapons for manufacturing companies to exist in the competitive market . To reap the profit, the manufacturing companies will have to satisfy the customer at lowest cost and at proper time . Profitability can be achieved by improving quality, reducing lead time and invent ory . Manufacturing Resources Planning (MRP-II) , Just- in-Time (JIT) and Optimized Production Technique (OPT) a re the modern production management technique . Due to h igh cost of OPT software , OPT system is not so wide spread as like as MRP - II and JIT . MRP-II is an excellent planning tool ; but the success of this system depends on the proper software se l ection, sufficient level o f data integrity and proper education of the employees about MRP -II philosophy . All manufacturing compani es are not suitable for MRP-II . A substantial amount of companies are failed in the MRP - II system. This study involves the identification of the reasons of failure of Ma nufacturing Resources Planning (MRP-II) in Thai l and . The r eason of this study is to provide the guidelines for the companies those who are interested to i mplement the MRP -II system and a l so to h elp the MRP-II use.rs to use the system more effectively . This research has been performed in four steps : in first step the status of MRP- II in the sample companies were analyzed and typical problems faced in the system were identified. In the second step, the prerequisit e s for the implementation of MRP -II h ave been defined. MRP-I I software selection is an critical decision . The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) has been used, as a third step, for the selection of MRP-II software . Finally, the case study has been performed to quant ify and compare the benefits obtained by the three companies; one company from Class B, one from Class C and other one from Class D MRP-II user. |
