Abstract | Petri net is found to be an excellent graphical modelling tool for specifications of asynchronous, discrete event, dynamic systems like FMS. In this study, a cell controller model is developed for a flexible machining cell with the help of Petri net. This Petri net model is constrncted from the design specifications of IDEF0 technique which is used to represent a clear functional relationship of the objects (data, materials, m/c, etc.) of the system. The model is analyzed to generate the possible decision alternatives for sequencing a batch of parts to be processed in the cell. The completion time of these decision alternatives are plotted to develop a new kind of graph termed as Sequential Behavioural diagrams to understand the flexibility in part completion time. A computer program is written in C for fast and c01Tect selection of the altemative sequences against desired due dates, under normal shop condition. The selection of suitable sequence(s) from the set of alternative decisions under special circumstances where the shop status deviates from the normal condition is aided through the use of an Expert System developed with the set of rules defined from the analysis of the Petri net model. Lastly, concise examples are illustrated on the possible use of combining Petri Net and Rule base systems for such functions of the cell controller like fault detection and fault diagnosis. |
