AbstractThis study concerns the problems of inventory and lot-sizing for Manufacturing Resources Planning System (MRP) of a sanitary fittings manufacturer in Thailand under uncertain demand environment. The main objective is to investigate and adopt suitable techniques and models for dealing with the problems. In achieving this objective, three distinct areas of the problem is proposed. These are demand forecasting, inventory system, and lot-sizing for MRP system. Due to very large number of products and component parts produced by the firm, the ABC Analysis is applied to classify them. Forecasting of demands for each products studied are obtained by using the double exponential smoothed forecasting model. Safety stocks of each products are set by adopting the service level approach to establish safety stocks. The Wagner-Whitin lot-sizing rule is used to size the production lots for MRP system. Finally, the comparison of the techniques and models adopted with the existing control policy is presented. Sensitivity analysis of the models' parameters is also discussed.
