AbstractA specific goal programming model to production planning for a case of a television plant is developed in this study. The model allows management to arrive of the desired goals as closely as possible. In this study the demand is divided into three levels, namely new product, export product and general product. Seven goals were considered in the model. These are (1) maximization of total profit, (2) maximum satisfaction of new product demand, (3) maximum satisfaction of export product demand, (4) maximization of total foreign exchange earnings, (5) maximum satisfaction of general product demand, (6) maximization of total revenue, and (7) minimization of inventory investment. The model was solved using Sequential Linear Goal Programming algorithm through XA package. All variables were considered as continuous variable. The results show that all the goals are almost of no difference between the continuous optimal solution and the rounded integer solution. An extensive sensitivity analysis of the production planning is reported to examine the effect of changed priority structure of goals and change in some model parameters on the solution. The sensitivity analysis gives insight to decision makers concerning trade-offs among different types of goals and help them to prepare better plans for the future works.
