AbstractLandsat Thematic Mapper data are processed to portray the salinity, turbidity and temperature in the Chao Phraya Estuary. Concurrent surface sampling data are collected at 20 locations at the near real time when the satellite overpass the study area. Correlations between measurements at samples sites and scanner data at the same points are exploited to develop predictive equations for water samples parameters. The equations could be used to characterize conditions for all surface water apperuing in the scene. Statistical analysis indicates that no relationship have yet been found between Landsat Thematic Mapper data with the turbidity and temperature, and significant relationship is obtained between salinity with band 3 of the Landsat Thematic Mapper data. Results are good for modelling salinity only, and indicate that remotely-sensed data applicable to monitoring salinity in this geographic region.
