AbstractThis thesis analyzes the growth and maturation process of the Japanese economy by a system dynamics model, which mainly consists of Samuelson's multiplier-accelerator model. Japan achieved its successful economic development especially after World War II, however now the Japanese economy seems at a turning point. The model shows that the economy tends to mature due to increasing capital coefficient and maturing technology level, and it is difficult to change the maturation trend. It may be important now for Japanese to recognize the situation and to adjust their society to the maturation period. On the other hand, some economic development patterns are analyzed by changing several parameters of the model. To maximize the economic growth of developing countries, some levels of initial demand, optimal consumption, optimal R&D capital investment, high technology gap, and some level of social capability are preferred.
