AbstractThis study describes an experimental investigation into the characteristics of Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC), incorporating locally available lignite ash and imported fly ash as a partial replacement to cement. The mechanical properties of RCC investigated include compressive and split tensile strength, Vebe density, air content and drying shrinkage, up to an age of 91 days. The physical properties and mineralogical composition of both ashes were determined to understand the behavior of RCC incorporating fly ash. The Vebe or vibratory compaction (VC) time was kept constant for all the mixtures by reducing water content accordingly. Results were compared and evaluated for optimum replacement ratio.
