AbstractA micro-computer package is developed for the static analysis of bridge decks using the Finite Element Method. A six-node degenerate thin-walled element is developed using the assumed strain method to formulate the stiffness matrix. Standard XFEAP package is modified to utilize as a central programme manager. The programme is written in FORTRAN and compiled by Microsoft Fortran V5.1. Several numerical problems are solved firstly to test the programme and to check the performance of the thin-walled element and secondly to compare the result obtained using the method presented here with the result of other analytical methods. Finally, a user's guide is prepared with an example for practicing bridge engineers. For convenient data input, a preprocessing data generator for some selected cross-section is developed. A post-processor is recommended for future modification towards making the package more user friendly.
