AbstractA case record of an embanl<:.ment built on soft clay ground with sand drain is analyzed using·finite element method. The Biot's multi-dimensional consolidation model is employed. The program is formed by gathering and assembling· the subroutine programs provided by Smith and Griffs (1988 ). One dimensional drain element is developed to simulate the function of the installed sand drains . After testing the program by some simple examples whose solution is known the case is analyzed . Although the constitutive model used is a simple linear elastic, the result obtained exhibit good capability to simulate the observation data. In addition to these work, some pre-post data treatment produces are developed to reduce the labor of the data preparation and the post data processing.
