AbstractFor low bulk density materials, densification is a solution to reduce the size, transportation cost and storage cost. There are two types densifications, i.e., cold and hot densification. This study focused on preparing rice husk pellets using cold densification technology. A cold densification system with hydraulic piston, available at the Asian institute of technology, used in this study. A mould 0[20.3 mm was used to prepare pellets applying pressures at 2000, 3000, and 4000 Psi. Characterisation of pellets based on initial density, relaxed density, shatter index, compaction ratio, change in volume and elongation was carried out. Best pellet was selected by using a matrix weight method. Rice husk mixed with water hyacinth at eight mixing weight ratios (w/w), i.e., 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, 30%, 35%, 40% (Rice husk: water hyacinth), used as raw material. The relaxed density of the pellets in 40% mixing ratio increased from 736.33 kg/rrr' to 896.81 kg/rrr', Shatter index, initial and relaxed density in all mixing ratios increased as the pressure increased.
