AbstractThis research study foc u ses on t he traffic accident studies along t he t wo se l ected roadways , Chalerm Ma ha Na khorn Expressway and Vipavadee Rangs i t Road (Highway No.31) in Bangkok. The primary objective of this study is to reveal the accident c haracteristics a nd acci dent exposu re. The secondary objecti ve is to identify the potential ly h azardous l ocations. Then the resu lts of the accident analysis of t hese two roads were compared. Furth ermore , t h e comparison was a l so extended to i n clude another country ' s expressway system. Th e a n alyses of traffic accidents in Thail and were compared with the Republic of China (R.O.C . ) ' s accidents on her expressway network . The resul ts i ndicate that t h e traffic accidents are highly related to t he traffic volumes. The primary acciden t cause on t he expressway is drivers ' carelessness , while on the highway it is over-speedi ng. Car i nvol vements have t h e highest occurrence percentages on both of t hese two roads. Through the acciden t exposu re a n a l yses , the highway shows a higher accident exposure than the expressway. After comparing the Thai and ROC ' s expressways , the a na l yses of t h e resul ts s how t h at with the except i on of t h e fatality rate, Thai accident exposure is h i gher than t h e ROC ' s. By using the Rate Quality-Control Method to identify t he hazardous locations, the resul ts revealed t hat on the expressway, 20% of the entire length has been identified as hazardous locations, while 32% of the h ighway has been identified as hazardous.
