AbstractIn this study, the application of wave control to sagged cable is investigated. From the linearized governing equations of sagged cable, the system is reduced to canonical form and solutions of waves are deduced. Based on this solution, a control algorithm is proposed. Practical aspects of wave control such as arrangement of actuators, installment of observer and problem in measurement is analyzed. The feasibility of this n~w control is investigated by the mean of numerical simulation. For this propose, a program in FORTRAN language is written and several numerical examples of cable model with different sag-span ratio are calculated. Results are compared to reveal the effectiveness and limitation of this new control.
