Abstract | Integration of public water transport system and land transport system is aimed at relieving exi s ting transport problems especially congestion problem along major road networks in Bangkok. Thi s study emphasis es the integration of express boat and BMTA bus sys t ems. It also investigat es the characteristics of express boat piers and their a ccessibility, for possible improvement of their safe ty and convenience in order to attrac t more travellers to this transport mode. The characteristics of travellers of the public transport modes and their opinions toward the public services are examined to identify the possible reasons for utili z ing or not utilizing the express boats. Recen t ly, as the long- taile d boats operate along the San Saep Canal a r e becoming popular among the Bangkokians , the operating sys tem, trave l t ime and noi se l eve l of these boats are also being investigated . The results indicate that most existing express boat piers s hould be improved a nd provided with shelters, guard- rails a nd seats . Accessibility of some of the piers s hould b e improved and certain bus s tops s hould be relocated as nearest as possible to the piers for better integra t e d services. Travellers ' opinions for utilizing the express boats are faster service and the reasons for not utilizing them are inconveni ence and danger ous . The governme nt should consider not only improving express piers a nd their accessibility for safety and convenient service , but a lso increasing long- tailed boats operations along Bangkok Canals. All of these measures will h elp relieve traffi c congestion in Bangkok . However, safety in riding and nois e pollution emitted by the wate r transport modes s hould not be overlooked. This will affect travellers in sel ecting public transport modes. |
