AbstractThis study focuses on living environments of employer provided housing for itinerant construction workers. The study tries to understand more fully the living environments at construction sites including physical conditions, social services, profile of the workers and residents' and companies' opinions of living environments. The results indicate that workers residing on construction sites are young and mainly from the North and Northeast region. Although many have land and a house in their home provinces, they live with their families at living quarters. Residents' evaluation of living environments are not bad, since basic services such as housing, water supply and electricity are provided free of charge and the majority are willing to continue their jobs. Living environments are analyzed not only by area-wise, housing structure-wise, but also by association between each item concerning living environments and residents' evaluation with application of Multiple Regression Model, Discriminant Analysis and aggregate type of Logit Model. The study identifies narrowness, dirtiness and land and house tenure as the most significant factors affecting negative evaluation of living environments. On the other hand, availability of basic services and level of communication with neighbors are positive influences. The study suggests several measures concerning physical conditions, social services and community development which should be taken by the company, NGOs and by the government to improve living environments at construction sites.
