AbstractChanges in energy consumption patterns can be a basis for determining whether an economy is utilizing energy resources efficiently. The use of energy intensities and their trends is one of the most commonly used methods for determining efficiency in use of energy resources. Variations in energy intensity can be broadly explained by two main factors, changes in economic structure and changes in sectoral intensities. The basic purpose of this study is to identify the role of structural changes, as well as the contribution of various sectors in the variation of total energy intensities for selected sectors of Thailand. The Agriculture, Transport, Residential and Commercial sectors have been analyzed. The Industry sector has been omitted as earlier studies exist. Unlike in other thesis, where only one methodology is used, in this study the analysis of each sector is preceded by a methodology as differing type of data necessitates such an approach. The most often used method is the Chateau-Lapillonne Method.
