Abstract | The objectives of the study were to determine the relationship between the u se of different farm mechanization levels with production, income and employment level for rice crop in zone 2 of Mahaweli system āCā area Sri Lanka, based on the findings to identify suitable technology levels applicable to the area, and to suggest methods to promote such technology levels. For this study a six-month survey was conducted of inputs and outputs on 50 farms in four villages in zone 2 of Mahaweli system āCā area. Data was collected through personal interviews of the farmers from October 1990 to March 1991. It was found that the power tiller users for l and preparation had the highest production per ha per season resulting in the highest income. Results indicated that there was no significant difference in labour use in power tiller farms when compared with animal powered and mixed (animal and tiller) powered farms. It was noted that there exists a very good scope for introducing proper mechanization technology levels for operations such as transplanting weeding and reaping. It was also noted that existing methods of threshing and spraying can be improved to give better results. |
