AbstractEffect of barred beach on longshore current is investigated experimentally and numerically. Velocity profiles of longshore current on barred beach are successfully obtained in laboratory with uniform distributed alongshore by using the existing model setup in which the some part had been improved and modified. The detail measured data is presented in terms of distributions of wave height at offshore or cross-shore and velocity profiles of longshore current which is applied to calibrate the values of K, dimensionless decay coefficient and r, stable wave height coefficient in wave decay model in the surf zone. The existing data on wave transformation on barred beach is also included to test these parameters and found that both parameters increase compared with those for plane beach. Three lateral mixing formulae are discussed with their parameters, N and M calibrated by comparing result of longshore current with existing, new applied eddy viscosity and effect of bar beach. The job of modifying lateral mixing model is well done.
