Abstract | The progress of industry today is characterized by rapid development of products and production facilities. It involves a continuous process of breaking and changing of methods, products, facilities, and, most important of all, personnel. This process entails technological, social, organizational, psychological, and even political problems. This thesis concerns one such problem, productivity, during learning periods, when personnel are learning new skills or developing new methods or new products. The learning curve theory and applications are addressed as a basis for setting policies during the learning period mainly for the purpose of increasing productivity. The models have been applied through the historical data and information collected from the company under study, which is electronic component (computer peripheral device) manufacturing plant in Thailand. The analysis and frameworks in this study are meant to increase management confidence in adopting a learning curve approach to best utilize resources in achieving the purpose of the organization. |
