Abstract | This study focuses on the calibration of the Irrigation System Management
and Operation Model (SYMO) by using the observed data at the site with real-time
operation of The Phitsanulok Irrigation Project, Thailand. Controlled and efficient
operation of a very long main canal is difficult to achieve. By using this model
to describe hydraulic behaviors based on the Saint Venant equations for unsteady
flow in open channel is found very important.
In order to calibrate the model, all hydraulic parameters were measured from
the field and inputted to the model. Discharge and stage were chosen for the
given boundary conditions at upstream and downstream of each reach respectively.
The optimum value of roughness coefficient were found by minimizing errors of
simulated and observed stage in the unsteady flow model. While the fluctuating
offtake outflows will affect to the simulation results directly making very difficult
calibrated model. The calibration of hydraulic structures in the main canal and
offtake structure was carried out.
The results are compared to the observed data with real-time operation and
found excellent. The management of an irrigation canal system can be simulated
to use for either planning or monitoring in order to better efficient operation
and management of the irrigation project to efficiently operate and manage the
irrigation project. |
