AbstractAt present, Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is experiencing fast industrial and urban development. Despite great efforts of the city's commission as well as of the national government, environmental degradation is continuing in the city. The problems are largely due to lack of sound water management in urban areas. Because of the limitation of the poor financial condition, new, radical, economically efficient and environmentally sound technology, providing a solution to widespread pollution problems, must be developed in order to provide the safe and healthy water and living environment to the people in the city. The aim of this work is to propose a solution. An investigation and collection of the data related to the existing water systems in Hanoi City was carried out. A brief description of the present situation of the city's water problems is given. The collected data and existing situation of the problems have been analyzed. Some technological considerations for the improvement of this situation at Hanoi's conditions are proposed. Then an integrated approach to urban management based on ecological protection has been developed in the general strategies.
