Abstract | In this study, a lot of exercises, which are based on the computer program of stability, are performed to establish a reliable stability criteria that will be used for practical purpose. The fulfillment of this criteria will directly beneficial to the intention of saving computer time which is usually a huge consumption for numerical computation. A two dimensional hydrodynamic model is analyzed by Fourier stability analysis. A computer program of stability (CPS) is established to represent the whole analysis and do judgement on numerical stability of the computation. Through computer exercises of CPS, a stability criteria formula is obtained from empirical boundaries that are formed from the results of exercises of CPS. Finally, CPS is verified by two applications which are the numerical computations of (1) a laboratory channel-pool model and (2) a prototype Songkhla lagoon. It is found that CPS can be practically used to predict whether the computation is stable or unstable. |
