AbstractA coupled regional and subregional model was applied in a complex Bangkok multi-aquifer system. In the process of coupling of the regional and subregional model, the boundary head generated by regional simulation was transferred to subregional model for subregional simulation. The MODFLOW program was used for both regional and subregional simulation. This program was modified to transfer the head value generated by regional simulation to the boundary of the subregion. The model gives the response of the system in the form of piezometric level in varying the parameter values. The calibrated regional and subregional model show the same pattern of head distribution in both regional and subregional simulation. The minor variation of head between regional and subregional simulation was obtained in some points of the study area. The boundary head values from regional simulation was one of the factor which influenced the choice of values of parameters in the subregion. The discretization of the subregion influence in obtaining more accurate local details. Smaller cell size gave more local details, but the smaller cell size requires more data and it increases the computational time. The model was utilized to predict the future piezometric level upto year 2010 for two different pumping schemes. The predicted minimum piezometric level for Phra pradaeng aquifer is in the lower eastern part of study area and in Nakhon Luang and Nonthaburi aquifer the minimum piezometric level is in the whole eastern part of the study area.
