AbstractIn this study an attempt was made to investigate the leveling accuracy of different paddy field lots in Thailand. Different types of paddy fields were selected and evaluated for their leveling accuracy which had been expressed in terms of two statistical parameters of range and standard deviation, by measuring surface elevations at grid points. In most of the places, it was observed that these values were significantly below the allowable limits. These leveling accuracy values were highly influenced by lot size, investment cost and farmers enthusiasm. The impact of leveling accuracy on other factors like yield, bund height, percolation rate and salt accumulation was also discussed. Due to fragmented, tiny and scattered land parcels with traditional plot to plot irrigation system, the layout of investigated fields was not up to satisfactory level. Therefore many difficulties occurred in irrigation Management. A mathematical model was developed to relate leveling accuracy with grain yield. A computer program was developed in FORTRAN77 to perform land leveling accuracy calculations based on least square method. This program was made to interface with another program developed in QUICK BASIC to determine graphically low and high level grids. Linear programming was used to determine earth transportation pattern.
