Abstract | This thesis demonstrates the idea that remote storage system can be simply designed and easy to implement and it is the example of the Local Area Network (LAN) consisting of host computer which is the time-sharing system using UNIX operating system and workstations which are microcomputer systems using MS-DOS. It is limited for the time-sharing system to serve only disk and printer devices and mailing utility. In this study, Assembly and C languages are used to develop the virtual devices and the communication interface between the two systems. By using the technique developed in this study, the network is very simple to implement, maintain and transparent to the user; the user can use the virtual devices and utility as some additional commands. |
