AbstractDebugging is an important phase in software development life cycle. It requires user access to extensive information about a program, its data structures and its execution state. A debugger tool becomes more efficient if it can present these information more effectively. Visual representation is a meaningful and effective way of presenting a program's data structures. A visual debugger has been developed during this study. The visual debugger is based on an existing symbolic debugger dbxtool. Visual representation of data structures is done by augmenting the source program with necessary functions. The augmentation process is done by automatic program generation technique. The visual representation of data structures and a dynamic call graph are dfsplayed in separate windows. The visual debugger can be used for debugging C programs and runs on a Sun workstation using graphics facilities of SunView environment.
