AbstractA technique for geometric correction of wide angle imagery are described. Implementation has been done on NOAA AVHRR images in a three step approach by using the row and pixel functions to improve the accuracy and the speed over other existing methods of using higher order polynomial mapping functions, to transform the image from the image coordinate system to geographic coordinate system. Question of earth curvature and tangent error is solved as first step. Interpolation and remapping were applied as the last step. Error is estimated and comparison was done with the existing methods to show that it is negligible in usual latitudes.
