AbstractDetailed experimental study was conducted both laboratory batch and continuous long term experiments to study the feasibility of using CFMF with periodic backflush technique in treating backwash wastewater from rapid sand filter. Initialy batch experiment was carried out to study the effect of operating parameter i.e. suspended solid concentration (832 - 2670 mg/l) and crossflow velocity (0.1-3.0) m/s on CFMF performance. The better CFMF performance was observed from low influent suspended solid. High crossflow velocity also gave the good result. CFMF with periodic backflush technique (Time of filtration (TF) = 1 min., Duration of backflush (Tb) = 1 sec.) improve the productivity about 230 - 270%. The long term experiment was conducted at Bangken Water Treatment Plant with field condition. The possibility of CFMF in treating filter backwash wastewater was found satification
