AbstractLaboratory and full-sacle experiments were conducted in order to improve the efficiency of full-scale Dissolved Air Flotation (OAF) unit installed at slaughterhouse. KF-785 and KF-390 (Hydrolyzed polyacrylamides) were used as flocculants to remove suspended solids and oil and grease from wastewater. Results are compared with and without polyelectrolyte operation of OAF unit. Some experiments were conducted to evaluate the possibility of using OAF unit for removal of algae. An operation manual has been prepared to assisst the factory management in operation and maintenance of full-scale unit. It is concluded that optimum conditions of OAF unit with and without polyelectrolyte (KF-785), at 4 bar, are 85 and 70% respectively. Cost for (OAF) energy is Baht 0.08/m3 and cos) (minimum) for polyelectrolyte, KF-785 (1.75 mg/l), is Baht 0.26/m of raw wastewater. It is observed that aeration is the most suitable alternative of chemical treatment as it is economical as well as easy to maintain. Industry have already installed two aeration unit to improve their effluent quality. It is also conclude that OAF unit can be used for algae removal but addition of flocculants and pH adjustment is necessary.
