Abstract | Four types of insitu tests were performed in the weathered and soft Bangkok subsoils , namely: LLT pressuremeter, field vane, screw p l ate a n d Dutch cone penetration tests . Th e tests were performed at AIT campus and at Bangpa-in Industrial Estate. In the laboratory, a series of consolidation tests were performed on clay samples to obtain the preconsolidation pressure and coefficient of consolidation. A series of CIU and CKoU triaxial tests were also performed on clay samples. Another series of unconfined compression tests and index tests were performed to obtain undrained shear strength and Atterberg limits. At the campus of Asian Institute of Technology t h e uppermost subsoil is about 2 m weathered Bangkok c lay and underlain by soft Bangkok clay. At Bangpa-in Industrial Estate the uppermost subsoil is about 0.5- 1.0 meter weathered Bangkok clay , followed by 4- 5 meter of soft Bangkok clay , underlain b y stiff clay. The average laboratory and insitu soil parameters were obtained and were correlated, verified and compared. Furthermore, the insitu tests results were applied in sand compaction to predict the ultimate bearing capacity and settlements of sand compaction piles. |
