| Abstract | Seventeen representative block samples were collected from the Mae Salid Site of Tak province, Northein Thailand . Detailed study of the engineering properties of the Tak diorite were conducted in the laboratory. The water content of the Tak diorite is 0.11%, while the water absorption is 0.22%. The dry density of the Tak diorite is 2.86 g/cc . The porosity and the void index are 0.62% a nd 0.!~ · The coefficient of the linear thermal expansion is 6 . 94 x 10 /°C . The Tak diorite is medium to coarse-grained , homogeneous , intermediate igneous rock. The uniaxial compressive strength and the diametral point load strength index are 206 . 9 MPa and 12.4 MPa respectively. Th e former is 16.74 times the latter. The tensile strength is 17.8 MPa and the brittleness of the Tak diorite (oc/ot) is 11.7. The point load strength index is 0 . 7 times the tensile strength. The cohesion and the friction angle are 33 . 01 MPa and 54.5°. The P-wave and S-wave velocity are 6166 m/sec and 3466 m/sec respectively . Th e Schmidt hammer hardness value is 66.4 for core samples and 63.9 for block samples. The wear percent and the uniformity factor of the Tak diorite are 16 .45% and 0 .25 respectively. The correlation between various mechanic a l properties were made. Th e value of the diametral point load strength index and the Schmidt hammer hardness value can be used as index properties for the Tak diorite. The results s how that the Tak diorite can be classified as very high strength with average modulus ratio (AM ) . |
