AbstractPhysiographically, Ban Na San is located on broad alluvial plain surrounded by north-south trending ridges. The land form features in the Ban Na San area include ridges, hills, terraces and flood plain. Geologically, the area consists of meta sedimentary rocks and igneous rocks overlain Quaternary formations of fluviatile origin. Ban Na San area has experienced two serious flooding in 1988 and 1990. Heavy precipitation, landform features, basin characteristics and inadequate flood protection are the main factors to cause flooding in the area. The physical and socio-economic aspect of flood hazard in the area were studied a nd summarized . Water supply system , groundwater quality, waste dispoing system and disposal site condition, construction materials and existing land use pat tern of the area were investigated and presented. A series of thematic maps were prepared. Slope and aspect map were generated by ERDAS GIS package . ARC/INFO , the most popular GIS package was used to produce the computerized thematic map s and was employed in generation of geotechnical land u se zoning map with GIS approach.
