Abstract | Bangladesh is not only characterised by an alarming proportion of poverty-stricken population but also is threatened by a n increase in their proportion. recognising that the people belonging to the target groups are generally landless, have almost no assets and have very little or no access to the conventional banking system and as a result they do not have any regular income of their own and so they are deficient in calorie intake , shelter , clothing and other necessities, the Grameen Bank takes especial initiatives to help them getting a better livelihood. The study is an attempt to examine the impact of Grameen Bank programmes on landless poor. The study was carried in five villages under Joara-Chandanaish branch of Grameen Bank in Chittagong district. The socio-economic conditions and basic necessities availed by the GB members and their households were collected. In this,ยท detail informations regarding income a nd corresponding expenditures for basic needs by GB house holds were sought. The results show that GB credit has definite impact on income of her members and their households, though it shows that there is relatively a few deficiencies in small- scale manufacturing activities. It further shows that due to rise in income level of both the member and household, there is a corresponding rise in expenditure level regarding basic amenities by GB households. It further shows that GB households acquired a considerable number of household assets . |
