AbstractThe study was conducted among peasant community in Dhapakhe 1 , an urban fringe with in Kathmandu Valley. It focuses on parental gender specific project ions to understand the problem of gender disparity in education, inspite of easy access to school . The main research objective is to study gender specific role , status and attitude in inter-generation perspective. A dual parent sample was selected for sample survey. Both descriptive (frequency, mean, standard deviation, F- test , Z-test , Chi-square test) and analytical (multiple regression and discriminant analysis) statistical tools are app1ied for quantitative ana1ys is. Qua1itative content ana1ys is is done for information from key informants and selected biographical features. The finding show t hat gender specified role and status are transmitted to younger generation, with some modification though, where men still remain the privileged group . Hence , parents are still biased towards sons, inspite of high public awareness of education.
