Abstract | Decision making in selecting an appropriate alternative is an important problem in any complex manufacturing system. This study is concerned with the use of simulation techniques through SIMAN simulation language to determine the system performance of two separate transfer lines in Thai Engineering Products Co., Ltd. The existing manufacturing activities of the two transfer lines have been studied._ A major problem is that the company cannot determine an appropriate action when a machine breakdown occurs. In this study, there are two main alternatives to cope with this situation. The main purpose of this study is to select the better alternative to contend with the machine breakdown situation in order to obtain a good performances. The model is developed with the actual data to duplicate the real system. STATGRAPHICS software package is used to determine the actual data distribution for the input parameters to the model. Experiment~! design is applied for identifying all possible alternatives. The analysis of variance is used to test the effect of various policies on the performance statistics. The appropriate alternative is determined by paired comparison tests of means of performance measures. Some discussions and recommendations are proposed to serve as guidelines for possible improvements and further studies in the future. |
