Abstract | This research is concerned with the problem of project risk analysis problem from a contractor’s viewpoint for decision makers of an engineering and construction firm in Taiwan. The sources of risks are: global risk, estimation and proposal risk, engineering design risk, purchasing risk and construction risk. The characteristics of the projects are: large material costs, and equipment costs, high labor intensity, high resource costs and high risk. The decisions to be made are how to minimize project cost, to reduce risks. To maintain some profit level and quality requirements, and to compete successfully for projects. Methods of response risk in project estimation, project cost calculation, network path generation and project crashing are discussed. For project crashing, an overtime strategy, bonus and penalty were adopted to minimize project cost, deriving at the same time the optimal schedule and project cost. The project cost considered costs of engineering, materials. Construction, indirect costs, such as expenses, overhead, taxes, profit, bonus and penalty. The effect of a project minimum cost on an optimal and penalty. The effect of project minimum cost on an optimal schedule was tested. The result shows that with the current cost structure and based on manhour analysis, not only project duration (critical path duration) but all activities influence project cost; also depends on the available resources, overtime cost and variable indirect costs. |
