Abstract | A theoretical analysis of the cooling effect in the ice-box of the charcoal-methanol refrigerator has been done. This analysis could be a guideline for redesign and operation of a new receiver/evaporator with bigger capacity and convenient use as a domestic refrigerator. After finishing all the work on the redesign, fabrication and installation, the system was tested, evacuated to remove air, that may be leaked into the system during assembling or some unwanted gases formed after one year testing. The system works normally and could produce ice even on a cloudy day. Normally, 2.5 kg of ice could be produced during a clear day. This system is promising good results for commercial purpose. It was observed that the system could produce more ice (up to 4kg) if some further modifications were carried out. Therefore a detailed design for commercialization is proposed. To have the best configuration for a given solar radiation condition, modeling the collector is essential, so a rationale and a theoretical basis to solve this problem is also proposed. Finally, a survey of potential use of this system in Vietnam condition has been studied. |
