Abstract | A study on the application of finite element for laminated plate/shell in geometrically nonlinear analysis was conducted. Assumed strain method is employed to alleviate various deficiencies of degenerated element in bending situation. The nine node Lagrangian element is consistently degenerated from three dimensional field. Three successive finite rotations are used to represent current orientation of the shell normal. Kinematic and balance principles and constitutive law are presented by the use of Element-based Lagrangian Formulation. Equivalent constitutive law is adopted to capture multilayer effects using smearing method. Several numerical examples are present to test present finite element with respect to finite displacement and multilayer effects. |
