AbstractThis study concerns the development and implementation of a design of distribution system from one origin to many customers. It designs a set of different kinds of trucks with minimum total transportation and inventory cost, leaving from and eventually returning to the origin, while satisfying capacity constraints and meeting customer requirements. Demands are deterministic and static, and in- process and holding costs are considered in the decision along with the shipment size for each truck type for each customer. The general objective of this model is to deliver the different oil products (food or non-food) as packed carton or tin product with the minimum total cost per carton per month by the optimal truck type for each customer for a set of different kinds of truck. The models are developed for two different distribution patterns: direct and peddling. For direct shipping, the optimal shipment size by a solution of a nonlinear program with considering the truck capacity constraint, while peddling, the optimal shipment size is a full truck with considering a side constraint. The peddling cost also depends on the region size (number of customers in each region). The optimal truck type for both distribution model is given by cost minimization equation. Finally, a schedule is provided for the set of trucks per month with the optimal shipment size for each customer covered by the company.
