AbstractThis study investigates the effect of the tool wear on the product quality characteristic by the use of control charts and and other statistical techniques. Two important tools used in rice mills, namely; the rubber roll huller, and the whiten er are consider ed. Models are dev eloped to calculate the optimal production run for both the rubber roll huller and the whitener under an assumption of a random linear drift of the process mean. The case of the rubber roll huller is formulated as an expected total cost function model while the case of the whitener is analyzed by introducing a new expected total profit function model. Numerical solutions are provided herein using a one - dimension al Fibonacci Search technique for optimization. Sensitivity analysis and comparisons between the old and new resetting policies are also given.
