AbstractAn analytical model is developed to predict deformation of a submerged dike due to flow over a fixed bed channel. The governing equations of the model consist of the continuity and momentum equations of flow, and of sediment transport. The governing equations are combined and rewritten in form of a wave equation. The wave equation is solved by using Laplace Transformation considering the effect of angle of repose at downstream front of the submerged dike and subsidence of bed wave. The input data for the analytical model are the bed height-time curve at the upstream end and the flow condition at the station under prediction. The solutions are determined by summation solutions of deformed bed height-time curves of rectangles representing the histogram of the input bed height-time curves. The analytical solutions are compared with the data obtained from the experiments in this study. Both bed load and total load are considered. It is found that the solution of this analytical model provide an accurate prediction in the region near to the initial location of submerged dike for Fr=0.25. When 0.25
