AbstractSteel is becoming more and more important in the process of industrialization and economic growth. In this study, an attempt has been made to estimate an appropriate demand function for steel in India. The demand function for steel in Indian economy has been estimated by using the econometric method. Regression technique is applied to determine the important explanatory variable affecting the consumption pattern on a national level. The GNP and Capital Formation have been found to be the most significant factor. The analysis of the structural growth and consumption pattern based on underlying economic factors provide an insight into the consumption sector. The estimation of demand function has been carried out using the parameters obtained in the study. The demand function shows that the demand for steel will follow an increasing trend in the future years.
