Abstract | A two-level hierarchical production planning model is developed for the multi- machine, multi- item, multi- stage dynamic and stochastic demand, variable production rate and perishable inventory problem considering the depletion of inventory according to the first in first out (FIFO) issuing policy and unidirectional flow of material inside the factory. The deterioration of the utility of the inventories in time is considered as an additional cost. In the first phase, it analyzes the master production scheduling (MPS) problem and determines the higher level production planning decisions for the MPS periods. Production scheduling in first phase is carried out in t wo stages; safety stock planning which determines the required safety stock levels throughout the planning horizon, and aggregate planning which determines the optimal level of resources during the planning periods. The second phase issues the detail planning schedules for the lower level scheduling of activities. The first stage of the second phase determines the economic lot- sizes and cycle times for the extended uncapacitated economic lot- sizing problem (ELSP) for the consideration of perishability. Then the second stage adjusts the cycle times for the feedback control of the system monitoring the forecasted demands and inventory levels while maintaining the limitations of the capacity of resources. The last stage determines the workforce allocation considering the changes in the lot- sizes due to the adjustment of cycle times. |
