Abstract | PC. Wire and PC. Strand production system is a serial multistage production system. The factory under study is a n actual one which needs to be improved in the production planning and scheduling. Two Kinds of raw materials are imported to be for the first two stages. After these two stages, all works-in- process can be processed by the common machines which are in the third stage. Finally, the last two stages produce PC. Wire and PC. Strand. This study focuses on aggregate production planning to minimize total cost by presenting a basic model for determining production quantities, inventories level and shortage quantities for each type of work- in-process and finished good in each stage and in each period. This model provides results of raw material quantities to be utilized in each period. The other focus is on production scheduling of drawing machines which are unidentical. The objective is to balance the utilization of these machines. Both models are formulated in linear programming and mixed integer linear programming respectively. They are solved by Professional Linear Programming Package called XA. A microcomputer- based decision support system is developed by running this package on microcomputer. The study of production planning development for actual case has demonstrated that the developed models and XA package are useful tool s that can be expected to be applied to the similar production systems. |
