Abstract | The construction industry h as a wide range of fields . The construction bidding of each domain is characterized by the use of expert knowledge , judgement and experience . In conventional cost estimation it relies very much on the expert estimator , but usually the experienced estimators are rare. A construction bidding expert system can be designed to mimic the estimator and to make the cost estimation more Flexible. The objective of this study is to design and implement a prototype of construction bidding expert system. A highway project field is considered as the domain. Production rule is chosen to represent the expert knowledge and Turbo PROLOG is used as the programming language for the development. Only some rules for selecting the crew set and adjusting project cost are discussed . The System consists of four modules: ( 1) • Knowledge Acquisition module provides a user friendly interface for users to acquire the knowledge and maintain the global database. ( 2 ) . Cost Computation Module provides rules to select the crew set of a workitem and the unit price of a resource and prov1des functions to compute The cost of the world tern and the project . ( 3 ) . Cos ·L Adjustment Module provides rules for ad jousting the project cost to reflect the real situation of the project. ( 4 ) . Report Module for ge1rnr.a ting reports. DBASE III is used Lo generate reports. A link between PROLOG and DBASE I TT is also designed. |
