Abstract | The study involves the technica1 and economic eva1uation of cogeneration potentia1 in two manufacturing p1ants in the Phi1ippines , name1y , the Container Corporation of the Philippines (CCP ) and Manila B- Meg Feeds Plant (B- Meg ) . Two cogeneration systems, the steam turbine and diesel engine, were identified as candidate cogeneration systems. These systems were sized according to thermal and power match . Results show that the installation of both the steam turbine and diesel engine cogenration systems subject to some limitations is economically feasible for CCP. The installation of a diesel engine at B-Meg , however , is not economically feasible. A sensitivity analysis of the effect of five parameters (buyback rate, electricity price escalation rate , fuel price escalation rate , capacity factor and investment cost increase ) on t he internal rate of return (IRR) was carried out. It was found out t hat IRR increases as the buyback rate and electricity price escalation rat e increase while IRR decreases as the fuel price escalation rate and investment cost increased . Decreasing the capacity utilization factor- resulted in decreased IRR. |
