AbstractAccelerated wear testing of enamel coating on mild steel rings was conducted to investigate the wear characteristics of enamel coating . These wear tests were conducted in sandy soil and on sand papers and the performance of enamel was compared with the mild steel. Results of the study are given in terms of weight loss and wear rate due to abrasion in relation to the duration. The amount of wear and the wear rate of enel coated ring were almost the same as the uncoated mild steel ring in sandy soil. However on the sand paper no. 120 and no. 100 the enamel coated rings showed more wear than the mild steel. Based on the studies conducted it was roughly estimated that the enamel coating should last for at least 80 ha of cultivation or 8 years of service life. The weathering studies of enamel coated plates showed that enamel coated ring is an excellent weatherproof material. Based on the results in this study it could be concluded that enamel coating has sufficient wear resistance and should be used on cage wheel lugs or other agricultural implement.
