AbstractThe study was conducted in order to find sui table land forming practices to a given crop (Zeamays) as a solution to the water logging problem which occurs even in the dry season. Different types of land forming practices, narrow be d , ridge and furrow , graded and no land forming were adopted . Influence of the adopted land forming practices on some soil physical and chemical parameters and on some crop parameters were observed. Crop parameters show significantly higher outputs under land forming practices when compared with no land forming. Most of the chemical and physical parameters of soil indicates an unfavorable condition for plant growth under no land forming when compared with the same parameters in other land forming practices. It is evident that land forming practices impose significantly favorable effects on plant growth . Although behaviour of some parameters are favorable under no land forming, the effects are suppressed due to other unfavorable effects. Grading practice is also satisfactory but ridge and furrow and narrow bed can be selected as the most suitable. The best one out of these two cannot be distinguished.
