AbstractA field experiment with maize was conducted in ALWDP field of Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok during January - April 1989. Combinations of three levels of Nitrogen with three levels Phosphorus were given at planting time and later top dressings were done. The above ground part of the plants were sampled and analyzed for N and P during the growth period and after having corrected the concentration of these nutrients to a fixed Dry Matter weight level of 5 g per plant, these data formed the basis of the development of quantitative evaluation and control of young maize plant. The results obtained from this experiment showed similarity ·of results with Krishda (1988) and Lawongsa (1 979 ) . New areas were covered by this present study in the correction model thus widening this model. Further , preliminary diagnosis and yield prognosis models were developed. A good agreement between predicted and experiment a 11 y obtained y i e 1 d showed the reliability and correctness of the models. Even with three plants per hill, good cobs and high yield were obtained at higher level of fertilizer application . These results encourage for further studies to determine the maximum plant population which can give higher yield with good quality. Maximum grain yield obtained in this study was 6. 9 t/ha (Treatment : Basal - 200 N & lOOP kg/ha, Today 400 N & 340 P kg/ha) . No yield was obtained in the plants which did not have P application.
