AbstractA mathematical model for the least cost design of wastewater treatment system was presented in this research stud y. In addition, dynamic programming was proposed as a solution to this model. The model uses a simple and comprehensive cost function which depends on flowrate and integrated parameters , which are estimated from the joint product nature of multi-pollutants in the influent and the effluent wastewater streams. The analytical procedure utilizes the decision-inversion method in the dynamic programming. A numerical example in the municipal wastewater treatment design was presented for illustrative purposes.
